FlyBase Update – October 2025 The termination of the NIH/NHGRI FlyBase grant has placed the long-term sustainability of FlyBase at risk. However, thanks to the generous support of several key individuals and institutions, we are pleased to announce that FlyBase will remain operational through the coming year. We extend our deepest gratitude to Yukiko Yamashita, Cassandra Extavour, Hugo Bellen, Thom Kaufman, the Genetics Society of America / Drosophila Board, the Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center, an anonymous donor and the Wellcome Trust. We are especially thankful for a generous gift from Seemay Chou, Jed McCaleb, and The Navigation Fund. Once you enter a DNA or protein sequence in the search box, you'll be offered appropriate options for the nucleotide or protein databases you wish to search.

Some of us at FlyBase found the contribution page a bit complicated, so we've made a video walk-through of the IU donation site. Note in particular, after you've chosen to donate 'in memory or honor' of someone, the tribute section has boxes for first and last names. Enter FlyBase in both.

As with other interactive tables, users can customize the 'Members' table by reordering or filtering columns, or filtering which columns to display.

Gene Reports for non-Drosophila melanogaster genes (foreign transgenes, non-melanogaster Drosophilids, etc.) have been improved in this release.
Empty sections of the Report not relevant for these genes have been removed, & other features adjusted to be more relevant for these genes.
