Maybe this, but also maybe that.
Honesty, kindness and hard work - the rest is negotiable.

This podcast on advanced geothermal with @timlatimer.bsky.social from @volts.wtf is one of the most hopeful things I've heard/read in awhile: www.volts.wtf/p/catching-u...

Distributed, non-polluting, proven tech, appeals to right- and left-leaning politicians, and room to run. Super cool stuff.

1/ 🚨New study alert!🚨 🔌💡
My DukeU colleagues and I just released a 1st-of-kind study on how the US grid could integrate up to 100 gigawatts of data centers w/out major new infrastructure, provided modest load flexibility (0.5%/yr). AI load growth can be managed faster, cheaper, & cleaner. 🧵👇

I know this figure got called out in the newsletter but it still amazes me every time I see it.

My annotation is why I get so excited about geothermal - you have to understand what fracking did to fossil energy to really grasp the potential for clean energy.

1/In 2024, we have seen unprecedented energy demand as the grid has been swamped with new growth from AI and other sources. Historically, lack of funding has kept geothermal from being a serious solution. Today we take another step forward to close that gap.

I keep reading that this is a place for kinder people, but gentle souls have always been among us. We just couldn’t hear them anymore. Perhaps our gathering here is proof that we missed those voices. What a wonderful thing to believe about ourselves. It can be a bold move to choose kindness.

My hope for Bluesky isn’t an environment free from people I disagree with. I yearn for more, not less disagreement. I want folks to tell me where I erred. I just don’t see much value in being disagreeable in the process.
