We also provide some practical recommendations for how to properly use Google Trends data in a replicable, reproducible, and transparent way that allows for valid conclusions.
We find a large increase in the use of Google Trends for research over the past decade. This is not surprising, given that Google Trends provides immediate and free access to "honest" data on a wide range of topics across regions worldwide going back to 2004.
