i'm so sad i didn't love this book but it was just doing too much. feels like the author tried to smush every gothic horror trope ever into one single book and it just ended up being confusing and ineffective. still, the ideas at the bottom of it are great & i rlly liked the characters.

i am not easily scared by books, but this one TERRIFIED me. the cold and the dark and the isolation... jesus christ. could've done without the multiple uses of a slur but other than that, i adored everything about this book. recommending it specifically for the terror people...

fun, fast paced, and very to the point, flew through it in two days. there are some attempts to explore family relationships and generational trauma, but they stay very superficial. i didn't love the ending, bu toverall, i still had a good time with this.

shirley jackson has never let me down. this was soooo good. merricat's narration was super fun to read, and it felt like such a classic in the sense that after reading it, a lot of weaker horror novels i've read make more sense.

here's a creepy little horror fic. while we were working on our RBB fic, @hyaha-ha-ha.bsky.social got me into Magnus Archives, and we've been planning a crossover fic ever since. Here it is! With two pieces of art by Hyaha & words by me :)

quick fun bite-sized read. the pacing worked well for me, the characters not so much, but it still worked. finally a mystery novel where the characters catch up to revelations at the same time as the reader!

i’m torn. the writing is stunning and i’m aching to read more from this author but idgaf about the story. elio is so fucking annoying and a lot of my reading experience was just me going “shut the fuck up youre 17”. their stay in rome was super fun but the rest was kind of eh.

I was kind of underwhelmed tbh. It feels very prescient, and the image of our future painted here is terrifying. I don’t think I understood or cared for the Earthseed stuff, and I also didn’t like how conveniently a lot of stuff just worked out, but other than that, a really good book.
