…and WHAT Shamima Begum was doing, the poor silly kid, wasn’t “running off to take up arms for ISIS”, or even “terrorising a 9 year old with racist abuse”, it was “running off to become a child bride, after adults successfully groomed her online.”

Meanwhile UK citizens freely volunteer for the IDF.
"I was only 17 or 18 when I repeatedly racially harassed a 9 year old. I either can't remember what I did, or it was done without malice or intent, and how can these people remember this? But that Shamima Begum, she was 15 and old enough to know what she was doing..."

The exact people now saying "Nigel Farage was young and foolish at school" (to excuse his racism, bullying and harassment of fellow pupils at Dulwich College) are the same people who said "Shamima Begum was old enough to know what she was doing".

Not enough emphasis on the slow and steady acquisition of skills...everything seems to be 'the fastest way to...'.

Just saw a video that purports to teach the fastest way to get better at Zen.

Dude, it's Zen. Being 'in' it is the point. Chop wood, carry water, both before and after enlightenment.

How the ABSOLUTE FUCK he or his investors ever believed that the world needed or wanted a decades-old knock off of Second Life continues to baffle me.

Still salty about the Christmas Quiz a few years ago where the quizmaster insisted that the answer to the question “How many birds were gifted in the song ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’?” was 23.

He wouldn’t let me have 184.

Fucker.

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me: four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree. They're not calling anymore. Ate them.

my favorite thing about a dual POV enemies-to-lovers is when they each have baggage that the other person is perfectly suited to understand and have empathy for and maybe help them through it but they’re too proud to reveal it so they and the reader just SUFFER waiting for the reveal 🥰🥰🥰

Yuanxin, the 6 year old kidnapped by ICE earlier this week, has been located in the Office of Refugee Resettlement.

This is also where they sent Emmanuel Garcia, the 15 year old autistic boy who went missing in Texas.

It took his mother 50 days to get him back.

We must get Yuanxin out faster.

Anyway I keep finding all these niche communities where men are not being toxic and competitive but instead are being kind and encouraging to each other and it's just nice. I might try looking for cowboy hat collector communities next.

Remember how I've said AI is an attack? This is what I meant
Two independent studies found that AI chatbots were better at persuading voters than political ads. The most persuasive bots also lied the most. This is something that humans working in psyops have known for decades. AI is psyops at scale. www.technologyreview.com/2025/12/04/1...

I mean, yeah. That's the entire point? Heated Rivalry, the book, is about loneliness and isolation and shoving yourself so deeply in the closet that you can't see anything outside of it, except you can't deny yourself one fundamental sweetness. The one that allows you to express your true self.

Y'all sound like someone trying to review a horror movie without having watched one before or knowing what a horror movie entails. "Ew there's blood! Ugh scary stuff happens, why would anyone watch this??? The lighting is so bad I can't see the corners of the room?????"

So people with media/culture criticism gigs who are writing or talking about Heated Rivalry right now: please, if you have never picked up a romance novel before, I'm begging you, either close-read at least a dozen from different subgenres, or pass the critique baton to somebody who has.

Really struggling to determine which awful Trump administration policy will kill more people

The illicit war brewing with Venezuela, the RFK anti-vaccination CDC panel (which just recommended against Hepatitis B shots for newborns) or stripping away healthcare insurance from millions of Americans
Slotkin: "If there's an idea that we're gonna go start a land war against Venezuela -- and just remember, the military of Venezuela is not comparable to the military of the US -- if we're gonna do that, then that should come to Congress."

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

I really enjoyed this. The magical kinda-Regency genre can be a bit hit & miss, but I enjoyed the world building a lot, & especially appreciated that the focus WASN’T actually on the burgeoning romance with the Cinnamon Roll brother-of-the-protagonist’s-frenemy, but more on women gaining autonomy.
What if Pride and Prejudice had magic?
What if patriarchy prevented women from reaching their magical potential but also treated the rare magical women as prized broodmares?
What if those women rebelled?

So, yes, I agree that the Gospel version of Thong Song slaps.

But you know how to find cool genre reworkings of songs that slap?

Postmodern Jukebox.
Vitamin String Quartet.
Rock Choir.
Hell, flipping SISTER ACT.

I promise there are A TONNE of humans out there making real song covers that slap.
