I guess on veteran’s day I’ll say that my great grandfather was shot down and killed during WWII fighting fascism. They never found his body. My grandmother was 10 and shattered and it led to generational trauma.

Yea whatever vision you have for policing eventually looks like, you can’t get there without first splitting up the police. Detectives should not be cops, cops should not be swat, cops should not be crisis response. cops get to be patrol and float as needed ie secure a crime scene, help crisis
The police should be broken up into like four forces each with different responsibilities and applicant pools.
My take as well: We need everything from "social worker who can dodge a punch" to "SWAT team" because sometimes someone's having a psychotic break in public and sometimes someone has a gun and hostages. The police being our one-size-fits-all solution is pretty stupid in that light.

Any Democratic senator, at any moment, could've derailed this by calling for Schumer's replacement and casting their colleagues as MAGA collaborators, thereby shifting the Overton window. But they're all in on it. This was always a team effort.
