A foundation for the future. A growth policy is a guidance-like document that the City will refer to over the next few years. Nothing in it can be enforced (like a law or regulation), but the Council, officials and city staff will consider it when making decisions. The Dept. of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hosting a public hearing tomorrow, February 27th from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at the Lakeside QRU (201 Bills Road, Lakeside, MT, 59922) for the Lakeside County Water & Sewer District's proposed plan.
Citizens for a Better Flathead's image depicts the date, time and location for the public hearing regarding Lakeside County Sewer & Water District's proposed plan to inject 900,000 gpd of septic and sewage wastewater about a mile north of Flathead Lake. The meeting will be held on February 27, 2025 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm at Lakeside QRU (201 Bills Road, Lakeside, MT, 59922) What your neighbors are saying... "Maintaining Flathead Lake's pristine water (and the north shore aquifer) must be prioritized over the convenience of the current sewage disposal proposal. Acceptable long term solutions may require more time, inconvenience, and money, but i join those willing to wait, compromise, and pay. " "This project needs way more research done into the complex hydrological system of Flathead Valley, not a parts approach, a wholistic approach." "I recognize the need for a municipal-scale wastewater disposal system, though let’s get it right, too much at stake – the ecological impact of discharging toxic pollutants commonly found in wastewater such as PFAS, PFOS - or pharmaceuticals that would find their way into nearby sensitive surface water and shallow private wells; effect and impact of future growth and facility expansion; need for a full environmental impact analysis before any permitting, using best available science and technology to protect our ground and surface waters & the project's large financial investment." Protect Flathead Lake! Tell DEQ this is NOT the place for 900,000 gpd of septic and sewage wastewater.

This is the absolute wrong location for 900,000 gallons per day of septic and wastewater and it’s being proposed just one mile north of Flathead Lake.

DEQ has extended the comment period to February 27, 2025.
