#43 really happy with how this turned out. i always wanted a quantizer for my “turing machine” module. kinda sucks that the only option for that is digital, but that’s what i got the disting for; small pieces of digital nessesity #eurorack #synthsky #modular

I’ve moved the DrumKid to the main rack - where it’s going to be causing all sorts of trouble…

#89 got a little bit hurt a while ago and fell out of the swing of things. fully healed and resuming posting now

#88 the sq-64 makes the best arpeggiator. i feel like i can get so much out of a single pattern with transpose mode.
i’ve realized that if you can sequence tonal changes to your patch, it makes it so much more interesting. here i’m using the 8th drum track to manipulate the delay length

#87 sub-oscillators are good. transposing melody is good. i missed distortion. i feel like i made one or two good patches without it and decided i was done. that was a mistake. still trying to figure out how to blend my sub-osc better. it feels like it is its own instrument rn #eurorack #synthsky

#86 extra squeeky. the “hihat” here was created by the pico bbd which upsettingly doesn’t have a low pass filter and is really only good as a sound source, but at least it does that well. i think i’m always going to start tuning from the start because if i don’t i never get around to it

#85 happened upon rave stabs on accident. is this how i chord?

#84 tremolo on tremolo + tremolo. this patch has two sounds, but the one that’s doing the “wub“ is the important one. both l+r channels share an oscillator, but it’s shifting left and right both channels have their own oscillators, but they are tremoloed in sync. then there is a master tremolo

#83 i factory reset my sq-64 when i was trying to get it to work with my computer and now it’s acting so much cooler. i think i enabled quantization a while ago, but forgot? anyway, this opens up exciting new possibilities for humanization./ still trying to figure out where my daw fits (not here)

#82 alright, so now i'm creating the midi sequences in live, recording those clips from session view into arrangement view, playing the midi while recording video with my phone and audio with live, and finally recombining the video and audio in video editing software. i also got stems!

#81 everything's connected. here's the first patch of the new setup. i don't like how i'm recording it all in the daw right now. i would like some video of the synth to go along with it. probably going to need to figure out video editing next. now that I think about it, a webcam would work well...

just spent about 5 hours trying to get my sq-64 to take midi signals from my daw. for posterity, i was using macos 15.3 and the solution was to open “midi studio” and delete all the other midi devices that were cached

≈80 minutes is a lot of minutes. i’m gonna be slowing down my posting to about half and seeing if i can get higher quality results. it will likely enable me to connect my daw to the whole setup.
this patch uses the delay to create a stereo effect where the “bounce” is heard in the left ear

#79 it’s wild how much having a mono signal widens the feeling of a sound. i was just trying to get more dry signal, but i found something more important. also, turing machine into noise decay env time = pretty convincing brush snares. the way that some hits sound cut short is just so good

#78 more dj inspired drops. i basically sent a cv to several different effects so that i could free up my hands to turn other knobs. this cv was gated by a switch so that i could get out of that “mode” quickly and continue on, but honestly, it sounds so much better with the pause #eurorack

#77 been watching too many dj shorts on youtube. pretend that the pattern that comes after this sick rising bpm transition was good, how sick would this be? i also need to get faster on my sq-64 controls, i have in depth technical knowledge, but not performing experience

#75 well, this patch involved starting with a bass, then a lead then drums, so i definitely don’t think there is a proper order to this process for me. i didn’t use any distortion in this patch… i’m starting to wonder if i’m going about my sound design all wrong now #synthsky #eurorack

#75 “lullaby for a forgotten bee”
there’s been too much energy in my patches. they need to be slowed way down, and i need to focus on quality instrument patching with subtle vibrato and tremolo. distortion means a lot to me, but it’s not everything #synthsky #eurorack

#74 i’m assuming everyone already knows this, but working in the order of drums -> bass -> lead is pretty good. two neat things about this patch are the lead getting its low end cut off by an envelope tracker on the bass so that there is always low end and the use of delay feedback as a riser
February 13, 2025 at 7:35 AM
#73 upsettingly, there’s nothing much new about the patch itself. i have, however, started to realize that if i don’t like what i’ve sequenced, i’m free to start over using the same patch. much easier to go “drums -> bass line -> melody” after everything is set up and ready to be played

#72 all modules, all cables. sometimes i get going and i just keep going until i find myself stopped by the physical nature of the format. two things i like about this patch are the lead slowing morphing and the delay dry/wet being controlled by an envelope which is kinda subtle #eurorack

#71 after passing a sound through so many effects, i find that the low end often gets knocked out, so here i’m passing the clean signal into a low pass and doing everything else in parallel. this frequency splitting idea from #68 is starting to become more useful

#70 mic’d up my guitar 🤭. i think that acoustic guitars are a whole instrument with a very specific sound that is hard to manipulate. flanging was the only thing i could come up with that sounded kinda good. also, it seems like when the mic is in the guitar, the low end is pretty strong #eurorack

#69 just keep pitching it up until you can hear what sounds like aliasing! the bass on this is ducked by the kick, which isn’t something i’ve done in a while. keeping it simple tonight #eurorack
February 8, 2025 at 7:52 AM
#68 multi-frequency distorted drums. i split the mixed drums into 3 paths: the high, low, and all frequencies. i then distorted each channel individually and together. then all these channels were mixed and outputted. some drums, like the kick and snare, got their own tube/rat distortion #eurorack

#67 first song on sound cloud woo! i love hard sync. it was one of my favorite techniques when i was working in a daw, but i haven’t thought to start digging into it until now. lead has a main oscillator syncing a second with an env on the second’s pitch #eurorack on.soundcloud.com/fxh7ShU6iKs8...
