I think you're onto something, as I mostly noticed the smearing when playing Nine Sols, after playing through ~10h of MKW earlier.

Would definitely recommend other movies by Saulnier if you enjoyed this one (Blue Ruin, Green Room).

There’s a setting to turn down the intensity of jump scares in case that’s a dealbreaker for you. Hope you enjoy the game, it’s excellent!

“Greater Evil” is really good, as are his other short stories depicting Tau (“Fire & Ice” is also excellent). I’ve been following the “best” reading order from the list below, and pretty much everything up until “Cult of the Spiral Dawn” (what I’m reading now) has been good to great.

based on what I read, it’s crazy how big the gap is between the quality of Fehervari’s prose and pretty much any other W40K author. have you read his other novels or short stories? Fire Caste is sooo good.

I find that installing most apps via Homebrew on macOS & WinGet on Windows makes setting up new machines much easier. Keep a static list & batch install with a small script. Some bits need manual installs, but it’s more manageable when that’s just 5% of the total.

the added "high risk, high reward" factor with the SD card placement as well ("did I forget to remove it? oh, it's snapped in half now...").

Would you recommend it as a good starting point for someone new to the series?

sounds like the “rhythm violence” tagline would suit both.
