📍 Asheville, NC
Good news in Asheville, the boil water notice has been lifted!!!

Those of us in Woodfin will have to wait a bit longer, but the light at the end of the tunnel is very bright.

WNC at golden hour last night. It’s nice to see views like this again…

One of the biggest Helene research questions I have is "where did water flow"? Satellites allows us to isolate partial flood extents along large rivers and streams, but reconstructing the full extent is more challenging.

I've made progress on a physical solution, but ML may prove useful here.

It’s still hard to believe how quickly the water rose that morning.

I’d been checking the river every 15 minutes since 5a. Suddenly, between 8:45 no and 9, everything went to hell in a hand basket. That’s a moment I’ll never forget.

I'm reflecting on past winters this evening, and this morning came to mind. This is arguably the most pristine winter scene I've ever stumbled upon in the southern Appalachians.

I've been exploring new Python ML libraries the past couple days. This morning's experiment is with PyTorch.

I'm using a woefully underdeveloped training dataset, but it's quite a lot of fun predicting high winds on Grandfather Mtn, NC using local ASOS observations. Decent accuracy so far.

Hello, Bluesky! After many years on Twitter/X, I'm excited to explore the community on this platform.

If we aren't already acquainted, I'm a meteorologist with a passion for mountain weather, maps, and fall foliage. You'll find that I post accordingly.
