I was at the RAH last night!
#ncbf done. Plenty of nice beers in show, but @emperorsbrewery again stole the show for me. Trench Run. 14 months in JD barrel. Thick, vanilla, lush.

v4. More complex malt bill, tweaked the water profile, and slightly lowered the mash temp. Boil additions for bitterness only, and some at hopstand. 75% Galaxy, 25% Riwaka, 200g on the DH. Three carb drops per pint. Much rounder body this time, and a little sweet. Peach, grapefruit, passionfruit.

Big day today - day 1 of our annual internal tech conference. This time, for its fifth edition, we took the step to host it at an external venue. I think it worked pretty well!

Drinking this 2020 Côte-Rôtie from Guigal. Absolutely delicious... Red and dark berries, vanilla, light smoke. It's so juicy up front, but finishes dry with a little chalk. A joy, sip after sip.

Lovely article in the first edition of "A profound waste of time" on the Sega Technical Institute.
It answers some questions on what was going on at the time. But it also resonates with me - being in an experimental team is exciting, but can be stressful - you constantly have to prove yourself.

For my birthday we drank Artemis (2020) from Stag's Leap. We visited the vineyard this year, but didn't pick this one up.
We found this in Majestic, seems like they've had quite a haul of California wines recently. It's a huge wine in flavour and body & a bit of a bargain at the current price.

Next bunch from #fussvent! Not a massive fan of coconut in stouts, but I'll certainly give that one a go. I've got a real build up in the beer fridge now, can't wait to get stuck into some of them - it's my birthday this weekend 😀

Looks what's back. Drinking in one of my oldest (surviving) beer glasses for extra nostalgia. Everything is so well balanced - the fruit against a real savoury edge, sweetness against creeping bitterness... and it's all wrapped up in a quaffable body. I really enjoy this one, a welcome revisit (4.5)

Beer of the weekend? Old faithful - Plain Dark Beer by Newbarns.
330ml cans now, seems to be the trend. For impys though it does make sense, you don't really need the full size can. Made the mistake of starting this straight from the fridge - as it warms, the body and flavours really shine. (4.7/5)

#fussvent days 2 and 3. Both look interesting - a Pfeffernusse stout, which should be sweet and spiced, as well as a baltic porter which should be a more classic affair. #craftbeer

I also opened my first #fussvent today, and it's starting off strong: A BA version of "Sticky Little Fingers" by Amundsen. And I quote: "Sticky Toffee Cinnabun Bourbon-Barrel Aged Ultra Pastry Stout".
I've had the original, but not the BA, so this should be good. No lactose either 😀.

Three years later and it's still delicious. Barely any maple, it's more brown sugar caramel, pecan, and a touch of treacle that I get here. I see the cans have shrank, which is probably sensible - it's incredibly moreish.
