i need all my transit-heads and city-planning-heads to go take this survey the city is doing about fixing the dangerous streets near my house and encourage them to just ludicrously maximize pedestrian and bike safety to the brutal ruinous detriment of cars

listen, our reporter who quit because of his association with a notorious sex criminal and ignored tips about a major party candidate isn’t a problem. the problem is that you plebeians think you’re allowed to criticize the new york times
I am not defending Landon’s relationship with Epstein. In fact, the NYT didn’t even try to defend it. He left the paper. What I’m saying is that a piece of investigative journalism that exposes a secret, criminal act such as statutory rape requires far more than what is in these emails.

I’m skeptical of the prevailing narrative that gentrification around interstate was driven by the yellow line and the interstate TIF district, because I grew up sabin and watched the exact same thing happen there but with no new housing development and no new transit construction

the most vulnerable city council incumbent is steve novick, who is going to lose his police union endorsement and get a challenger to his right next year and nobody else is even close

a lot of industry objections to the realpage ban boil down to the fact that the use of data aggregators to dodge price fixing regulations is widespread and extremely normalized, in many parts of the economy and particularly with wages. companies don’t want you digging deeper for a reason!

reflexive anti urban sentiment from business groups is hurting their credibility with voters
Seattle Times' business columnist is having a normal one. (From comments on a gracious post about a potential Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson by former mayor Greg Nickels).

CAHSR haters seething as the california high speed rail authority iterates on their design and procurement practices to improve costs and speed up timelines
By learning from other countries and adopting international best practices, California High Speed Rail was able to cut its costs by $14 billion and cut 70% of tunnels.

This is a big lesson for transit projects both in NY & around the US: start by learning from other countries.

A whale carcass has washed ashore near Depoe Bay.

Wednesday is the 55th anniversary of the exploding whale.

Oregon Sen Bruce Starr, Rep Ed Diehl, and Taxpayers Association of Oregon founder Jason Williams have officially filed a petition against the state transportation package, which Governor Tina Kotek signed into law today.

wishing the governor the best of luck pitching i-5 snowplows and transit cuts to voters while having zero new street upgrades or mobility options to campaign on
Gov. Tina Kotek has signed the transportation funding bill lawmakers passed over a month ago. Opponents now have until Dec 30 to collect enough signatures to send taxes in the bill to the ballot for voter approval. #orleg #orpol

Parking was one of the more controversial aspects to Portland's Residential Infill Project.

This newly built triplex at SE 16th & Morrison is a good example of how eliminating parking requirements allowed a mature tree to be saved. www.redfin.com/OR/Portland/...

Portland's FX2 dares to ask the question: what if a bus rapid transit line came infrequently, had very little dedicated right-of-way, and had to stop for at-grade train crossings.

I know this sounds mean but if you think that this is a coincidence you're more than a bit of a mark. If Kaine had been up next year, it would have been Warner, if Slotkin was retiring, Peters, etc.
The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

when has this heuristic ever been correct? I cannot think of a single time this has actually happened
Regular reminder that Axios stories saying Dems are about to cave are likely sourced from GOP staffers trying to make it happen.
Doesn't mean it definitely won't happen. But it's like those NYT stories that Harvard is considering caving (they haven't). The anonymous source was trying to manifest it.
