As a tax-paying voter and constituent of [District], I am one of the countless individuals who would be negatively impacted by the elimination of Direct File, the initiative that started just last year to build an online system to file taxes to the IRS. This pilot program has made it more efficient to file taxes without needing to go through the unnecessary logistics of finding an accountant or going through an online system that costs hundreds of dollars like TurboTax. The Direct File initiative what the government needs to secure its money faster and more efficiently while giving citizens and efficient and fuss-free way to file their taxes. According to TaxNotes.com (1), the current Republican tax package would eliminate this program instead of allowing it to expand, instead opting for contracting a system out to a third party that would create more confusion and hassle.
Please vote against this package and speak up on how this would affect millions of Americans. The Republicans have deemed it a "failed program" when in reality, it's helped those who know about it, and will help even more Americans should the program be allowed to remain and expand to the remaining 25 states.
