We're thrilled to announce the winner and finalists of our #artcompetition.

Comhghairdeas libh!

Winner: @laoighseach.bsky.social for a piece inspired by "An Cluiche Fichille faoin gCrann Iúir" (The Chess Game beneath the Yew Tree).
Oisín, the son of Fionn Mac Cumhaill 🦌

Did you know that a significant portion of the fenian lays are attributed to Oisín himself, and are often cast as reminiscences of his time with his father and the Fianna?

Caorthann/Caorann/Rowan, a tree you’ll find bursting with red berries this autumn, crops up regularly in the tales of the fianna. In Bruíon Chaorthainn, Fionn and his men are trapped by their enemies in a magical hall made of rowan wood.

What were the seasons like in the time of the Fianna? 🍂

Well, according to Oisín, they tended to have:

“A foggy winter,
A frosty spring,
A varied summer
and a sunny autumn.”

Here’s to hoping we have a sunny autumn!
