NEWS --> Anna Gomez, the lone Dem on the FCC, tells me the Trump admin's pressure to oust Jimmy Kimmel may be unlawful as well as unconstitutional. FCC chair Brendan Carr may be committing censorship in violation of federal law.

That and much more in my new piece:

Trump’s Ouster of Jimmy Kimmel Is Much Worse than You Think It Is
Anna Gomez, the FCC’s lone Democratic commissioner, tells TNR that her boss’ move violates both the First Amendment and the Communications Act. Democrats must extract consequences.

Just so everyone is clear, this right here is what an actual violation of the First Amendment looks like. When the head of the FCC says a company needs to do something about someone who displeased the administration or lose its license, that’s no joke unconstitutional

MSNBC host: Are you having a great time, Senator?

Sen. Murphy: No. This sucks. We're debating a bill that's going to cut health care for 16 million people. This is the most deeply immoral piece of legislation that I've ever voted on in my entire time in Congress.

BIG: A new poll from NYT just confirmed this broad storyline, finding him underwater on immigration, with 51% of voters disapproving versus 47% approving. Large majorities in the NYT poll oppose the lawless specifics.

Popularists should just admit they got this wrong already.
Remarkable from WaPo poll: Trump sinking fast on immigration among independents.

56% disapprove of handling of issue
62% oppose removing foreign students
52% oppose renditions to El Salvador
Only 21% want Abrego Garcia left there

Engage, Dems.

Trump Is Suddenly Bleeding Independents. A Brutal New Poll Shows Why.
Immigration was his best issue in the polls. But now he's sinking on it. Maybe Americans care about the rule of law after all.

Watching movies is good! You're telling the rest of the audience that you thought it was good!
small but profound pleasure: when people applaud at the end of a movie. everyone knows the director and stars can’t hear you, it’s just everyone going “we all watched a good movie, hell yes”

When people say that some concept is too complicated for voters to understand, I remember Stephen Sondheim's line about the "West Side Story" movie. He was told that it didn't have "hummable" songs. Then United Artists spent a ton of $ promoting it, the movie was a hit, and suddenly it was hummable.
I was told that protecting due process couldn't be a winning political issue because a poll from before this gained wide publicity showed people weren't already upset about it.
Joe Rogan explains to his audience why due process is important and quotes Ben Franklin — "it is better 100 guilty persons should escape than that one innocent person should suffer.”

He argues against shipping people to a prison in El Salvador without trial because we think they’re gang members.

Arguably not just after the election, but during election season as well. Community building matters all the time, and that includes during election season.

The fact that Dems see mailing lists solely as a fund raising tool is such a waste.
If candidates used their e- mail lists for community building after the election, rather that asking for money, we'd be in a much better place.
