The UK ranks 55th of 61 nations for nature connection

Urbanisation & ease of doing business biggest negative factors

Valuing spiritually & faith over technology are positive

Environmental organisation membership had little impact

What if it were possible to simulate how generations lost their connection to nature?

My latest research does just that and it matched the decline in the use of nature words since 1800. Summary and links to full paper: findingnature.org.uk/2025/08/11/m...

What if it were possible to simulate how we lost our connection to nature over 200 years?

My latest research does just that and validates it against the decline in the use of nature words: findingnature.org.uk/2025/08/11/m...

Even a 1000% increase in urban greening by 2050 wasn’t enough to reverse the disconnection from nature caused by the ten-fold increase in urbanisation since 1800: findingnature.org.uk/2025/08/11/m...

Nature words in books have declined by 60% since 1800 and a model simulating over 200 years of human–nature relationships in an increasingly urban world accurately mirrors that decline.

What happens when it runs through to 2125?

Yes, there was exploitation of more abundant nature, but a big decline in biodiversity (similar trend to connection) since then, with IPBES citing increasing disconnection from nature as a key cause. UK/US connection is now half that of more connected nations like Nepal & Ecuador.
