We then identified a key mediator: FGF21, a liver-derived hormone.
Under protein restriction, it rises in both sexes, but only delays growth and puberty in females.
July 12, 2025 at 2:37 PM
Males entered puberty on time, despite stunting.
Females, in contrast, showed delayed vaginal opening and estrus onset.
Same stress, different developmental trajectories. The timing of puberty is more sensitive in females.
July 12, 2025 at 2:37 PM
Males: severe and persistent stunting.
Females: transient early impairment, but mostly recovered by adolescence.
Same diet, different outcomes. The biological response to protein restriction is profoundly sex-specific.

I really wonder how in 2025, with the tons of computational tools we have, the non-parametric fits like LOESS and GAM, the possibility to plot residuals, etc. we can still see regressions like panels c and d, and assume that this is biologically meaningful just because p<0.05.

Not sure that “cum probability” for a paper about female reproduction is the best abbreviation 😅
(Besides that the paper is absolutely awesome)

I was feeling skeptical about a setlist which was 90% of the three latest albums. Feeling they they were not as heavy as they used to be. Boy, was I wrong! That was absolutely insane. Best concert of 2025 so far.
