What was so central in historical struggles for the trial by jury was the necessity of unanimity. Juries are the only place in our government where a small minority of average citizens or even a single veto can turn back the tide of state repression.

For about the first decade of this century, Iloilo was the Executive Director of the Fully Informed Jury Association. A brilliant intellectual with a deep passion for knowledge, Iloilo led a life marked by courage and conviction. She died on February 13.
