Updates from the mill. We spin our own yarn and process our own and fleeces from other people.
Plying the #yarn for Fuggsy’s Wrap.

The result - an Aran / 12ply 2 end #yarn that is a weird light green colour. Not sure how the dark green singles blended that much, but there you go. I'll def be doing more of this - my desire to keep fibre out of landfill is strong 💪

Spinning thick singles as I assume it'll hold the green cut up singles a bit better. It's spinning remarkably well considering its unevenness. But if I can keep the leftover green singles from landfill this might become a regular thing!

That's not very pleasant..

And the final product. From a greasy fleece on a sheep's back to this skein of #yarn. A #yarn ready to be transformed into a work of art, a jumper, a hat, a scarf or any other creative endeavour.
No harsh chemicals involved!

Steaming the #yarn is a great opportunity to remove any dodgy bits and general quality control. Plus it's the first glimpse of the final product.

The penultimate step.. Plying three ends together for a beautiful DK #yarn. The final step of steaming and skeining up next.

A few more steps to go.. Spinning the #yarn singles. It's spinning beautifully. This will be a 3-end DK/8ply yarn, non-superwash woollen-spun. All natural!

The next step in this fleece's journey into #yarn is drafting.

The picked fibre is now carding into #roving in preparation for drafting which is the next step on its journey into #yarn.

After spending a few days drying outside under a warm Australian sun it's ready to pick for a second time.

Picked fleece ready for the wash and tub of hot soapy water. Will be doing three washes with this fleece.

Raw, greasy fleece running through the picker for opening. This makes washing a lot more effective. Next pic is picked fleece, ready for the hot wash.
