The worst is that after a few good days, I'll think, "Maybe I can do this," and then I try, and I need several days to recover. Then I both feel stupid for trying and worthless because doing the thing was a struggle.

A lot of Americans bitch about accents because they are "too heavy" but I feel the onus should be in part on media to offer broader and more diverse exposure to help with processing accented language (and other cultures as a whole).

I appreciate that you want diverse American accents. I feel similarly about English accents. I think the idea behind it is it might be harder to understand more rich accents (on either side), but in my mind, more exposure leads to easier understanding, and subtitles can help (if able to use).
