if the infant didn't want to be pepper-sprayed, why was it somewhere where pepper spray is likely to be deployed on random innocent people for no reason, i.e. within a 3-block radius of any DHS personnel?
after all, avoiding pepper spray is a matter of personal responsibility

So like, critical theory might look at how attending Ranger school is associated with higher Army officer promotion rates, and how Ranger school is more difficult for women to get into, and ask how much is for legit military purposes vs. to maintain men's dominance of senior officer positions.

...isn't this kinda the opposite of a critical theory-based analysis? Critical theory would analyze the systemic aspects of gender and the military - asking what ways gender roles are encoded into the military's structure and operations - not actions rooted in one person's sexist views.

when I read the Wikipedia article I was like "wait, that sounds fine, context clues are important when reading. isn't everyone taught that?"
it took me a while to realize that "three cues" literally ONLY teaches context clues, and never teaches kids how to turn writing into sounds correctly

we didn't retreat, we conducted a successful strategic advance in the retrograde direction

For example, sec 592 specifically makes it a crime if any military officer "orders, brings, keeps, or has under his authority or control any troops or armed men at any place where a general or special election is held"
an identical blanket pardon in 2028 would make this law virtually unenforceable

it shows exactly what the GOP admin can do in 2026 and 2028, to reassure GOP radicals that the admin's got their back
now we know that, for example, any of these offenses will be pardonable if committed for any of the reasons listed in the pardon

we're literally in the same exact position, but worse because now you can say "well Democrats voted for it, now they're voting against it, so Democrats are at fault"

for anyone who thinks this is an exaggeration - in Westminster systems, if backbenchers cross the aisle on a supply (funding) bill, either they'll be expelled from the party ("lose the whip") or party leadership will immediately resign
whipping supply votes is, like, leadership's "you had one job"

If Dems say "golly gee, the GOP ran a good campaign, we'll get 'em next time!" then it further legitimizes the GOP's anti-democratic crap
if Dems say "we cannot let this happen, we must block the GOP while we can" then it's directly anti-democratic
it just doesn't work.

Nov 2032: after a series of unfortunate events and a few blunders by the Democratic administration, President-Elect Vance and the incoming GOP majority pledge to double down on the Trump strategy of mass deportations, armed troops on the streets, and repression of dissent.

you CANNOT have a democracy if participants do not believe that political opponents can legitimately hold and exercise political power. It doesn't work. It's not possible.
Republicans already thought that about Democrats, and now many Democrats rightfully think that about Republicans.
