I was hoping Newcastle United would win a trophy before the grim reaper comes calling. They have and I couldn't be happier.
Earlier in the last relegation season, with us leading 1-0, Mitrovic had a goal disallowed despite being at least 2 yards onside. Aguero equalised just before time, and went on to score 5 in a 6-1 win.

The penalty (and later rescinded red card) against Habib Beye for a clean tackle that was also outside the box - 2008
Nigel de Jong breaking Ben Arfa's leg in front of Martin Atkinson, who didn't give a free kick - 2010
Ryan Fraser being cleaned out by the keeper, Atkinson again the referee - 2021

It's horrendous.

Manchester United were relegated at the end of that season.

It appears we're getting it any way.

They've become as reliable as the Sunday Sport.

A 500 mile long snow front. You couldn't make it up, but Reach PLC just did.

When we won 4-1 at Everton.

Why are we even wearing a change kit at West Ham anyway?

The colourised version is great too.

I've watched it, in its entirety, myriad times. It's been wonderful on each and every occasion.

The Boxing Day bank holiday is the first weekday following Christmas Day, as first designated in the Bank Holiday Act 1871.
October 31, 2025 at 9:35 PM
No-one is suggesting they are. In the UK, Christmas Day is always 25 December, but Boxing Day isn't, strictly speaking, always 26 December.
Also, Boxing Day has been an official Bank Holiday (in England and Wales not Scotland) since the 1860s, Christmas and News Year's Day only since the 1970s.

Always having games on 26 December is a bit of a myth. Up to the 1980s, if 26 December fell on a Sunday, you'd have to wait until 27 December to see a game because football games weren't allowed on Sundays.

They will, even though it isn't. They also could have televised all the PL games with staggered kick-off times on Boxing Day this year (much as Amazon did last).

Olympique Lyonnais.
October 31, 2025 at 7:20 PM
Technically, Boxing Day is the Bank Holiday that follows Christmas Day, rather than it being 26 December.

He had a very good game.

The winners from the previous season are automatically placed in Pot 1, irrespective of coefficient.

They'd struggle against 2007/2008 Derby County.
October 14, 2025 at 8:28 PM
I knew there'd be a logical reason, Frank.
