I find excessive posting (look at me! buy my stuff! do what I say!) to be irritating and I block people who do it. They waste my time and are not amusing.

Today on Volts: as you may have heard, there were some elections last week. How did they go for climate world? To find out, I did my annual check-in with @spears.bsky.social of @climatecabinet.org. I don't want to spoil anything, but folks ... they went well. Really well.
So, there were some elections. How'd they go?
I talk with Caroline Spears about the stunning results in key state and local races and the lessons for 2026.

It struck me that Johnson's refusal to swear in Grijaliva might be performative. He knows he cannot prevent the swearing-in, but he has to put up a good fight to show his mob boss that he is loyal.

2) The only reason they might choose to stay on is if they think that somehow the GOP can stop or corrupt the mid-terms.

We have to pressure them to resign.

1 ) We can take back control of the house and senate if enough GOP reps and senators resign and special elections are held. Repugs have been losing big time in special elections.

Why should they resign? Because that would be less humiliating than losing an election by huge margins.

Same day the Fotus signs the ugly bill, I get an email from the SSA telling me how happy I should be that this abomination passed. The government is sending me propaganda. I hate with an incandescent hatred. Sorry, Buddha, I don't have your compassion.

This is quite an ad. And a good explanation of ranked choice voting.

There’s A Lot to be said on the topic generally, but top of my list of ways the Dems are fucking up is their refusal to hear, mentor, and lift up the junior members of the party.

Based on my understanding of linear time, this seems like a realllly iffy choice.

When I see an interesting post and pull up the comments, I am often dismayed by the stupidity and sheer meanness of the commenters.

I still use Facebook. Woke up to an onslaught of junk drowning out my feed. Posts suggesting that I follow groups in which I am NOT INTERESTED now take up 95% of my feed.

I use Social Fixer and FB Purity. Is this a malfunction on their part? Or is this Zuck trying to stop resistance organizing?

2) The balls aren't in the dryer, aren't on the laundry room floor, I've folded the laundry and they aren't there...

Is someone stealing my dryer balls? What can I do about it?

1) The world is heading toward climate doom, the Republicans are mounting a coup... and I'm worrying about my wool dryer balls.

I put them in the dryer in the condo shared laundry room and come back and find one or two balls missing.

It depends on what you want to sew. It's possible to sew simple folk patterns without much in the way of equipment. Handsewing with just needle, thread, pins, scissors, marking chalk, rulers is cheap.
I sew and I do not even attempt to sew garments (I do mend/hem). ‘Just make your own clothes’ is actually very expensive (and about to be even more so) and time-consuming and it requires very specific skills. You can’t sew and victory garden your way out of this one friends.
I don't think people really grasp that sewing is a skill and that textiles are a legitimate subject of study. The whole point of Elle Woods studying fashion merchandising is that it was supposed to be frivolous but it's actually hard and those skills were transferable to Harvard Law.

Good idea? One day, three days, then target companies that are complicit in the coup.

The Welsh told the Saxons this hill was called "pen" (meaning "hill"). The Saxons added their word for hill, "tor," and called it Torpen (hill hill).

Later the Norse added their world for hill. So it became Torpen Haugr (Hill Hill Hill).

Now the English call it Torpenhow Hill (Hill Hill Hill Hill)
