Krill, and people living with intellectual disability, shouldn’t have to prove their value to be protected, included, cherished and celebrated for what and who they are. This ranking of life is a weird and arrogant quirk of humanity that we need to resist if we truly love God’s good creation.

Of course, we do it to people too. As a parent of a young man with significant intellectual disability, people still like to reassure me he might contribute to society, provide value, through paid employment one day - even if that’s underpaid, mundane work that offers him little incentive.
