"This new perfume is really popular, wanna try it?" "Oh," Clorinde said, "certainly. Do you have the bottle with you?" Navia skipped ahead a step and span, bouncing on her heels. She faced Clorinde with a sly grin. "Nope." Clorinde had roughly a second to chastise herself. What a stupid question. Why would Navia carry an entire bottle of perfume with her? She should have stopped to analyse the logic of her question, and her failure to do so had given Navia an opening. Sadly, the opportunity for reflection and self improvement ended quickly. Clorinde could now think of nothing but the overwhelming sensory overload of Navia's body, pressed against hers. Palms upturned, Navia clamped her wrists to Clorinde's neck. The faintest sting registered as Navia transferred her perfume from skin to skin. The bulk of Clorinde's attention, however, was fixed to Navia's eyes. She stared at Clorinde, head dipped, gaze almost hidden through long dark lashes. Even obscured, hunger shone through. She expected a kiss, but instead let out a quiet, pathetic little whine as Navia's lips moved beyond hers. She stood rigid, face burning, as Navia pressed against her, nuzzling into the crook of her shoulder. She felt Navia's head turn, and her lips meet the hinge of Clorinde's jaw. She felt Navia's breath against her cheek as she moved back, slowly, achingly slowly, until their lips finally met, her tongue sweeping across Clorinde's bottom lip. Over the buzz in her ears, she heard Navia speak. "There. Now everyone knows you're mine." And then Navia was gone. She was strolling away, leaving Clorinde a bright-red statue in the middle of Vasari Passage, with no shortage of stunned onlookers staring at her. "Clorinde? Mon amour, don't dawdle! Chiori expects us in 15 minutes!" Clorinde didn't budge. What a way to announce their courtship.
