I always forget that Gabe Newell made the startup capital he used to found Valve working at Microsoft, but _specifically_ porting _Doom_ (1993) to Windows 95 at Microsoft (alongside just developing Windows)

The price for the Steam Frame is “no more than the Valve Index”, I could do $1000 if it can play at least a moderate selection of VR games directly on it without needing a separate PC to stream from (like, I'm talking about all the older VR games my GTX 1060 was able to render fine on my HTC Vive)

I just noticed the coincidence that a fuckton of languages got standards revisions finalized in or named as 2023.

Ada 2022 (published 2023), Fortran 2023, COBOL-2023, C23 (published 2024), C++23 (published 2024), SQL 2023. That's like 25% of all of the programming languages with ISO standards!

mate why is everyone such a hater, valve launches some legit really cool hardware and immediately you find people going like

"y'all love licking valve's boots"

no mate, this is just awesome tech coming from a pretty stagnant sector, it's great that it exists

In the GamersNexus video and the promotional video and promotional images, Valve seemed to really go out of their way showing the Steam Machine running Blender and Godot on dual monitors, interesting
November 13, 2025 at 3:19 AM
I would not stop laughing if Valve managed to pull off with the Steam Frame what Apple completely bombed doing with the Vision Pro. Valve is trying to market it as “use it as your monitor for all games, not just VR titles!”, but I could actually somewhat imagine it working because 1) it'll be […]

I wouldn't get one anyways but Valve's plan to let you seamlessly swap SD cards with games on them between the Steam Deck and The Cube™ sounds pretty slick

Multilevel paging is still much better than segmented memory IMO
November 12, 2025 at 9:17 PM
I imagine this has to be “need more contiguous address space for memory mapping” rather than an actual “can't allocate large enough” issue, but even then I can't really imagine the use-case for this lol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_5-level_paging
