Even a passing knowledge of Black history will make clear that not only was this level of destruction possible, it was inevitable. “Did you know they’d shut down US AID?” I mean these are the same people who closed all public schools in a county rather than desegregate. Yes. Yes I did.

This is not normal. A sitting president refusing to call the governor of a state after two elected officials were shot, one fatally, is beyond words. A typical president, regardless of politics, would pick up the phone. Offer condolences.

as someone who teaches at kent state, is from ohio, and produced a documentary about NG being deployed into ohio towns to control minoritized groups, i feel confident in saying that incompetence coupled with an overuse of governing power & white supremacists in charge is still a cause for concern.
also a reminder that kent state did not involve an intentional order to fire on civilians, it involved poor training and incompetent on the ground leadership. and so if the claim is “the guard will fire on civilians if ordered,” you don’t even have an example with which to use!”
