...it's a children's show, and you don't usually put explicitly gay characters in them. the thing is, little kids might not be aware of these semantic nuances with « aimer », and for them it'll just be 'awwww how cute they love each other they're such good friends!' 3/

in French, it's reserved for
1) family members and pets
2) things one loves doing
3) romantic partners

so this basically reads as 'Louis loves you so much [as a pet], and I love you too [romantically].' it's nice already, but why do I call it clever? because... 2/
