Red Oak has very beautiful wood (at least in my opinion), but the grain takes in a lot of moisture, which can lead to rot, making it a poor choice for outdoor use!

You can stain wood a deep black color using vinegar and rust! I used this technique to add some character to the wedge I used while restoring this axe!

Poisonwood Trees make the same chemical compound as poison ivy, but it does it in such a strong way that it can kill its own limbs! If you touch the tree, burn the wood, sit under it in the rain, or all sorts of things you risk getting hit by the chemical it makes!

Most people know you can judge a trees age by counting the rings from the trunk, but you can also tell different growth patterns, such as how wet/dry a year was, or if something damaged the tree!

Birch bark was used to make the outside of canoes waterproof! By first soaking the bark in warm water, then using rocks to weigh it down, the bark would be bent into shape, then the rest of the interior structure would be made!

Although commonly confused with poison sumac, Staghorn Sumac is not related to it at all! It's bright red berries are safe to eat, and can be made into a nice tea!!

Tamarack trees are awesome, golden, trees that aren't dead, they just look that way! Although technically a member of the evergreen family, their needles turn a golden yellow and eventually drop! I <3 tamarack trees!!

Wild Plum wood has a lovely sweet smell when green, although it tastes very bitter if you just taste the bark. I haven't checked this, but it could probably be used to make an infusion, then for teas and all sorts of things!

Balsam Fir pitch can be used for so many things!! Uses include the following, and more: it's antibacterial and can be used as a natural liquid bandage, it can be used to make a natural adhesive glue, it's an amazing fire starter, and it can be used to make tea!
