I read nerdy books and share my thoughts on them, usually though not always in the sci-fi/fantasy genre, and especially #DoctorWho tie-ins.

It's really depressing to hear "trans women are women" being framed as a "position," when in fact it's just the truth and any statement to the contrary is bigotry.

I'm pretty certain the Doctor regenerating into Billie Piper had little to do with the 20th Anniversary and was more about grabbing some headlines and "generating content."

It was always bad faith. People just don't want kids to be trans. It's as simple as that. And the government are capitulating to hate.

The implication being that if it wasn't someone famous, then his life wouldn't matter. Something like that should never even be a consideration for the Doctor when saving a life. This is the same show in which the Doctor once said in the whole universe they'd "never met anyone who wasn't important."

Because to me the messaging is the antithesis of everything Doctor Who should be about. Instead of exploring the theme of whether one life has value and is worth saving, it becomes self-indulgence about how "WORDS MATTER" and Shelley can't die because he's a historical celebrity and too important
