Returnee to ancient wargaming, latent astrophotographer and lapsed photographer. Stopfordian by birth, Old Mancunian by education.
Sometimes when I'm focused on painting a unit I lose sight of the bigger picture. Mid Republicans still have a way to go but feels like I have enough for a decent #Wargaming battle now.

So I got back from #Wargaming at Fiasco and set about finishing my latest Romans - but this time I took the plunge and added an extra painting step - which do you prefer?

New kids on the block - more leaders for the Blue legion, patiently awaiting their turn under the #Wargaming brush.

Some standards and musicians to make my Romans feel less leader less. #Wargaming

Thureophoroi pending shield designs and basing for my Republican Romans #Wargaming army.

Thanks to Martin Stephenson for his advice, partially implemented on these Gauls for my Republican legion. I'll be braver next time! #Wargaming

Iberian scutarii ready with Gauls queued up for painting. What one thing would you advise to improve my painting? (brace for impact) #Wargaming

Cretan archers and Balearic slingers for my Republican Romans (and most other armies of the period) #Wargaming

Based up so just need to edge the bases and varnish these Carthaginian chariots for #Wargaming

Lots of progress with my Carthaginian chariots - base coat, then various coloured washes before highlighting. Coloured washes give a more subtle finish. 1st try dry brushing so learned a lot. I think the small amount of effort was well worth it so will be doing it again. #Wargaming

Base coated and zenithal highlighted for my Carthaginian chariot #Wargaming filler project.

My #Hammerhead #Wargaming project is to build these impulse buy Carthaginian chariots to enable my Late Carthaginians to masquerade as Early. I'll be trying a dark primer for the first time, plus zenithal highlighting (eek) - ideas and warnings welcomed!

Hammerhead caused me to spend a tad more than planned. Scenery, rules and some extras for my Carthaginian and Achaemenid armies. But I've still not finished my Republican Romans! #Wargaming

It's a curious blend of slog and joy getting an army painted. Not quite half way through this mid-Republican Roman force which was completed by basing the cavalry and commanders. Time to pause before starting Part II... #Wargaming

Making progress with my mid-Republicans. These are the last of my Old Glory figures. Moving on to Essex figures to complete the army - maybe they can line up behind Old Glory for a forced perspective?
