Worldwide mortality experience since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2024) shows excess deaths over that period in almost every country measured. Australia (+6%) was below average, and New Zealand (+0.1%) the lowest we measured.

In the 60s and early seventies the boarding house had a dorm (called big balc) that was open to the elements. Had roll down canvas blinds (no windows) to keep weather out! So how accessible or not the mains supply was in the 80s is debatable.
