But yeah, I had 12 out of 10 anxiety both because of range (unexpectedly getting "power limited" at 3 miles remaining, and no SOC% gauge anywhere in the car), and because my phone WAS DEAD. Used phone's last gasp of energy to find one last AC station as I hit "power limited". Then find home w/o nav.

So it took 4 hours to make the 1 hour drive home - and I'm a pretty seasoned EV guy (12 years of EV-only life, road trips, etc). I'll never get stranded, but it'll just take longer. And here begins the journey of using this car to make charging a Spark still possible on a new generation of CCS EVSEs

I made the brainfart of leaving my big battery bank in the other car when I embarked on the journey home with it. That's because, usually, my phone battery lasts all day and then some. Not so, when you're using it for nav. And struggling to get a CCS station to function. And finding it has 3.3kW AC.

And I, over here, would much prefer my washing machine to be able to interact in a more complex and nuanced manner than a mechanical dial... and would like my HVAC to be as efficient as possible using the magic of latent heat thankyouuu technology advancements are wonderful kthanks 🙇‍♂️

Sure! You don't need to buy smart bulbs. But you don't get to choose to buy smart bulbs, then complain about installing/using an app. You can just buy the dumb ones just fine.

I don't know anyone that thought walking into a '90s electronics store was like "looking for solutions".

Fundamentally, if we all want to crawl back into caves, we can discard all solutions and their problems as well. Wouldn't that be fun?
January 26, 2025 at 10:23 PM
What we lost in the transition to "phone does everything" economy is the ability to walk into an electronics store and gawk in wonder at all the cool things that can be done... all with bespoke electronic devices. That's all gone. The exploration and wonder is lost, but the need's still there.

Do you need an app to control those smart light bulbs? No, you can just use the light switch as always - but why'd you buy the smart bulbs?

Alternatives: a dedicated device needs to be manufactured solely to control those bulbs. Instead, an app on your existing phone.

More efficient as an app. 🤷‍♂️

That was me in 2023. I very much regretted it. I ended up getting rid of the Ioniq 6 after just a year and a half, getting back into a Model 3 to preserve my sanity. Hate the guy, love the car. Nothing else even compares. At least for me, software/driver controls *really* matter.

The gymnastics by both sides of the Melon Husk polarization are intense and insane. Having followed the guy for some 14-odd years, I stand steadfast that the truth is in the middle. Turned into an insufferable attention-wh*re being back-pat by the wrong people.

(it was a joke that, in context, is incredibly obvious. Word-filter bots lack context. Even lacking context, it ought to be obviously not serious. Kind of ironic that Mr. Free Speech still has such a glaringly broken bit of code in place)
