This is a silly headline and story. This fire is not particularly near the ancient BCP stand and is 70% contained.

Paleo poster session in lieu of class final. Here the beringia productivity paradox. So proud.

Paleo folks know @xkcd.com temperature timeline, yeah?

I have a 12' version printed and once per year the students are always amazed (me too).

And sometimes spend way too much time turning them into apps. The students like them fine, but probably not enough to justify my life choices. Did I have to add in an animation button? No. No I did not.

In landscape ecology, I emphasize how simple models can illustrate complex patterns—like how dispersal on an environmental gradient can look like species sorting and niche partitioning. So, I make toy models for class.

Classic reading from Wally can be a balm for hard times.

Teaching landscape ecol! We are looking pattern/process and how v simple models -- e.g., dispersal mediated by an env gradient can produce species sorting and heterogeneity in ways that look kinda like nature. Initial random start w/ strong neighborhood dispersal and opposite mortality funcs.

Honored to write a commentary recent Pederson et al paper with an AMAZING floating tree-ring chron from whitebark melting out of the ice. The way they use that (unique) resource with ESMs is so well done and gives us a look at the mid Holocene. Freq response y'all! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Betteridge's law of headlines applies: Was there a 4.2 ka BP event in Sweden?

Interesting that this was served up to me today along with the Asian speleothems paper.

4.2 kya is dead, long live 4.2 kya.

Hey #dendros. Left the other place several years back and feel disconnected from the paleoecology and paleoclimate community. Hoping to get back into learning what kind of cool stuff is coming out with dendro, climate, and env data sci. And dogs. Always dogs.
