Depends on the type of review. If it’s just holding it up and saying “this book is about” then it’s not a review. If it’s “I gave this book 5 stars and loved it” and then they say they didn’t read it then no one will trust them. We readers tend to know who is genuine.

Pretty sure not every makeup reviewer is trying every single product to the fullest either, nor does everyone who does an “unboxing” video fully use what’s in the box every time. This seems like a “BookTok is bad” hot take that is kind of pointless 🤷🏼♀️

That’s not a bad thing. Most “reviewers” get nothing except the love of sharing books. Are we shaming paid promotions? Seems weird.
