A reminder that in 2010 the Bloody Sunday inquiry found
- the killings were unjustified
- none of the 14 dead (7 of whom were children) had guns
- no warnings were given
- no soldiers were under threat
- the troops were the first to open fire
43 years on, we await the first prosecution.

Never quite understood the Cormac McCarthy worship. Tried reading his books a couple of times, but they always left me feeling bored, depressed, or both. Now learning he was a 47-year-old man who abused a 16-year-old girl? Awful. My sympathy goes to that vulnerable young girl—and to his fans.

I’m going to say something historians rarely say.
We haven’t been here before.
We haven’t had a near-authoritarian takeover of our government.
Admittedly, we don’t know what comes next.
There’s a wide array of options.
But know that in the US, this is new ground. And none of this is normal.
