Both ecological and digital matter is entangled within the textile boundary layer around the clay vessel instead of housed inside the vessel itself. Interstitial spaces, like the boundary layer, are fluid vessels of interdependence.

Their very existence, regardless of precarity and instability in the larger environments around them, is sustained through Transness. Boundary Layer also queries what can be a vessel.

The boundary layer is an example of an interstitial space (Haraway, 2013). Our other[more]-than-human kin who occupy interstitial spaces and boundary layers are living in liminal, in-between environments - existing in inherently fluid and Trans ways.

Boundary Layer: Hybrid Fabrication as Resistance engages with moss thriving in the boundary layer (Kimmerer, 2003) along with the interconnectedness of mycelium networks (Tsing, 2015) as examples of mutual aid and how collectivity challenges precarity.
