Tug of War!

We were shooting at the Katy Railroad Museum in Katy, Texas when Max the husky decided he had to come over and say “HI!!!” When a husky decides to do something, it’s GAME ON! Fortunately Shima had a great grip on the handle and stayed on 2 feet. Max knocked me flat, and was just playing. What a good boy. I love dogs, love working with them, and they add so much to a shoot.

Playful!
When a shoot is several hours along, it’s a hundred degrees outside, and the model can cool down by playing you know have magic.
The cool grass, the mood is right. Our red-head green-eye model is just perfect!

Towards the end of our farm shoot the temperature was a hundred degrees and humidity to match. Our model was having fun going nude, and this shot was when she decided to pull her clothes off and lie on the cool grass. The mood was perfect. Instead of whining about the heat, she went with it. She was a perfect model who knew how to roll with it and create magic. Later shots are a combination of topless and full nude, but this one is my favorite for the sheer joy in the expression!

When I suggested something she didn't understand she wasn't afraid to get a "say what?!" expression. This beautiful red head / green eye lady was a delight to work with. At the end of the shoot, when all is said and done, and it’s time just to be expressive. Light is fading, there’s a feeling of satisfaction of accomplishing “art” whatever that may be. This beautiful blonde was fantastic to work with on several sessions indoors and out. There’s a depth to this shot, which was done under impossible light conditions. And yet I love it.

We were testing fireplace light, flash and natural light when the model slipped on the floor and fell sideways.The teddy bear remained upright. Somehow I got the shot as she started laughing. I love outtakes, they show the human side of the model and how things don’t always go perfectly, but real beauty and character shine through.

She had a fantastic smile that just lit up the frame. Her friend was there, with a pup, and it was one of the best shoots ever. From the early 70’s. A great time to be a photographer!

Please bring your friends - 2 legged and 4 legged - on your shoot! I love when a model brings companions. It adds a level of comfort and security as well as ideas and possibilities that would not otherwise exist. Perhaps the best shot of the day was the three of them together. Even the dog is getting in on the action. This monochrome was shot in the Ozarks at a favorite location not too far from Little Rock on a hill with great scenery. Pentax Spotmatic F with Pentax SMC Takumar 55mm. Ilford Pan F with a dark umbrella and Sunpak 511 fill flash.
