My growing up neighborhood and the Victorian coach house that served as our garage…it’s good fun for me learning to use watercolor paints and I like painting nostalgia, I’m finding. This painting is in process…

I’m going for looseness and realism. What’s going onto paper is cuteness! Not my goal, but my granddaughter will like this baby portrait of her new puppy. I have painting learning to do! And dog fur, and black fur? I have at least 10 layers of paint here to create depth and texture. Tips, friends?

…and the learning continues…good fun with this attempt to capture the personality of my lovable granddog 😍. And did I intend to create a painting that is whimsical and a little cartoon-ish? I did not…but here it is.

Complete novice here, but I keep putting brush on paper to see what transpires!

My newest watercolor, actually only my 4th or 5th ever, a quick study of my grand dogs to figure out how to make curly hair, to create shading, to feel how paint moves on paper. I’m having fun being surprised at how my painting looks when I stop. But, it does look like each of them so there’s that!

I am a beginning water colorist and loving this learning. My brother’s heirloom veggie harvest is great fodder for watercolor practice. My way: jump in to learn! 🤗
