Why would that be, and what would that have looked like as it was happening? The narrator of my story was there as it happened, and the explanation is both surprising and also self-evident if you really think about it.

The Odyssey, meanwhile, was definitely created second, and is much more likely to be a collection of many sailors' tall tales across centuries gathered together into a sequel to The Iliad rather than a cohesive albeit exaggerated account of any single voyage.

To the extent that scholars agree on anything, the general consensus is The Iliad was conceived first as an almost-complete epic applying a mythological storytelling flair onto a notable Bronze Age conflict.

Two further thoughts on this?

First, I have such a clear and vivid memory of painting that upstairs apartment between tenants while listening to a two-volume CD of Billy Joel's greatest hits.

Second, the whole building in that small town is priced at two-thirds of what my condo cost us in Toronto.

Fortunately, in a fight, flight, or freeze scenario, one of the fastest dogs I've ever seen thinks staying very still on the couch is a better tactic to avoid ear drops than running away faster than I could possibly catch her. As I said, smooth-brain the size of a clementine...

If I have to listen to ads, why are they always for other podcasts, or international ads for therapists, mattresses, bidets, pet food, & grooming products? There must be a way to get local car dealerships, jewelry shops, dentists, & what-have-you into podcasts. It amazes me no one has done this yet.
