@worldstrokeorg.bsky.social
is comming to Barcelona next week and I'm deligted to be a speaker. #WSC2025

Join me on Wednesday, 22 October at 15:00 (Room 112) for the FROM GENOMICS TO MULTI-OMICS: IDENTIFYING DRUG TARGETS AND UNDERSTANDING BIOLOGICAL MECHANISMS IN STROKE session

In 2016 I attended my first @esostroke.bsky.social as a PhD student, now nine years later I've been invited as a Faculty
I'm feeling equal parts proud and impostor syndrome
Cheers for a great #ESOC2025

Attending #ESOC2025
Come by HallC3 Wednesday at 5:00pm
I'll be talking about #DNAmethylation and its potential as target for epigenetic drugs in #strokecare
at the Scientific Session: 'Novel Molecular targets in acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke'

Last Week at #4YFN #MobileWorldConference our colleagues at @bsc-cns.bsky.social presented collaboration project, to use wearable data to personalize Stroke treatment
It was wonderful to be there, support them and see the amazing work in the medtech space
Hope we have great results for next year!

DNAm can estimate #biologicalage, which may predict stroke risk, severity, and outcomes better than chronological age.
Stroke patients tend to be biologically older than their actual age.
This effect seem to be stronger in men and vary by stroke type

Findings suggest distinct pathways influence prognosis at different time points
Mid-term outcomes are linked to #excitotoxicity aligning with prior GWAS
Long-term outcomes maigth involve #angiogenesis
Recurrence seems associated with #coagulation

Some DNA methylation patterns linked to ischemic stroke risk, with some findings suggesting ethnic/geographic specificity.
#inflammation -related genes are frequently affected, though it's unclear if DNAm changes are a cause or consequence of stroke

This will be the most advanced, comprehensive dataset on epigenetic modifications to date, and a game changer if we account for the other biological data available in the UKBB and it's rich phenotyping
