Right now, since you're not at home, there will be a list of things that require Face ID. If your Face ID scan is not working then you cannot do those things - I don't believe Apple support will be able to do anything.

If someone stole your device and force reset it, it would still be signed into your iCloud account.

Even if they watched you type your password, they couldn't use that password to sign out of iCloud because of Stolen Device Protection. That's the purpose of the protection.

When you are at home (etc.) you can reset Face ID with just your password.

When you are away from home, you cannot reset Face ID without a successful Face ID scan + 1 hour delay.

While frustrating, I'm not sure how a casual thief could break this?

Ah, I see - you cannot modify the location list. Without Face ID, there is no way to disable stolen device protection except to return home and try again.

I just tested and I was able to turn off Stolen Device Protection without a Face ID scan (covered the camera). After it's off then you can go and make any changes you want.

Reading the guidelines on Apple's website, it should not require a FaceID scan *if* you're at a "Familiar Location" such as your home. Looking at the section titled "Security Delay" at the bottom of this page:

About Stolen Device Protection for iPhone - Apple Support
Stolen Device Protection adds a layer of security when your iPhone is away from familiar locations, such as home or work.

Meaning it's rejecting your face? I've never had it completely stop working myself.

If we end up with wealth redistribution because they fucked up insurance, but people still go bankrupt because insurance is still fucked....monkey paw moment

I will say one thing about Gemini that's always happened is sometimes it just stops.

Yeah this is super frustrating and is why my friend groups still use iMessage for sharing photos/videos.

I'm very glad that my town and surrounding towns were able to get batteries installed without too much hassle

The title should make it clear you're testing the 2026 Solterra - the plug has nothing to do with the test you ran, so it sounds like you're testing a Supercharger.
