This is a superb thread that captures and explains the frustrations many of us feel, but did not/could not articulate as well as this. 👏 Bravo.
The 2025 Curriculum and Assessment Review Final Report was meant to “build a world-class curriculum for all.” In reality, it signals something quite different: the closure of curriculum reform in England. 🧵

We need to look at this as a profession and ask ourselves very seriously what is going on in the education system. #EduSky
This second graph is also striking.

Graph that show the levels of school suspensions by deprivation - and the HUGE increase post Covid.
@warwickmansell.bsky.social always spots what other are missing in education news - and these stats are not surprising to anyone who is close to schools - but clearly missing in the wider debate.
This second graph is also striking.

Claudia Mendoza, Chief Executive of @thejlc.org , spoke to me about her Adeni heritage, & the warmth of belonging. But it isn't all challah & hilbah.

I also asked about the failings of leaders to engage with Racism, & the tension between those who are accepted, and those who aren't.

I think this @schoolsweek.bsky.social interview demonstrates how the focus of the curriculum review was subject related and secondary focused. I don't think it actually deals with key issues around young people's engagement and wellbeing within the English system.

Finally, some good news from the USA. Like everyone who's ever spent time there, I never stopped believing they could vote for better. It's an incredible country built by good people, with a messed up past. Like most places.

I hope #Mamdani fulfills the hope he has rekindled.

The Becky Francis curriculum review is out!

Obviously, it's a mixed bag, but... It's not as small an evolution as I'd feared.

Some good stuff here, but let's see how it'll be resourced and supported to be ready for 2027/8.

To do this right will need serious £££

Have scared the shit out of lots of children this evening, and two asked for a trick and (with parental approval) got water pistol sprayed!

No sweets left and a takeaway on the way.

Bottle of wine and The Blackening cued up to watch....

That's a good night.
