Hello! This account is all about finding the space to breathe and focus in our hectic teaching lives. It’s these spaces (sometimes only a few nanoseconds long) which allow us to find the most useful response to enable our pupils to learn, progress and self regulate.

Important information for pensioners in the UK: ‘Winter Fuel Payment texts are fake messages urging you to "apply" via a link for the payment. Winter Fuel Payments are automatic, so never click the link, report the text by forwarding to 7726, and delete it immediately to protect your details’

Cadbury Milk Tray Bar (1947-1981): A massive milk chocolate bar, made in a special mold that featured 14 individual pieces of chocolate, all connected, and each with a different filling. It was essentially an entire box of chocolates in bar form, available only in the U.K.

“Do not believe everything you think.” Allan Lokos

We all have moments when our thoughts run ahead of us. We can take a breath and come back to what’s actually happening.
We don’t have to follow every thought that appears.

Today is Bodhi Day, a holy day for those of us who follow the Buddhist way. The day celebrates when Siddhartha Gautama, reached enlightenment. We celebrate it with quiet meditation, contemplation, reading the Buddhist text and a humble meal. My blessings to everyone.

Namaste 🙏

The main fact that stuck with me after writing a book about British Xmases is that The Times was complaining about decorations going up in October back in the *1930s*, Selfridges has had decorations up in Oct since at least the 1950s and the whole “earlier every year” thing is generally bollocks
Middle class people love to pretend to be appalled at Christmas decorations being either early or fun to look at, the ideal Christmas tree is put up at midnight on Christmas day and decorated only by a black cloak and an unlit matchstick

Keep repeating a helpful action until it becomes a regular habit. Then you no longer need to waste energy on self-negotiation or deciding whether to do it

Also, just because I only found out this summer, you can pick them up from any chemist* if you pop in a answer a couple of questions.

*assuming you don't have issues with antibiotics etc.
this is potentially TMI but also *v useful information* so: did you know that (in the UK) if you start to feel you're getting a UTI on Saturday evening you can do an online form with eg Boots and be picking up your antibiotics by 10am on Sunday morning? and then start to feel better by 11am?

Dazzle Ships in Drydock, Liverpool, 1919, painting by Edward Wadsworth. Dazzle camouflage was created in WW1 to protect British ships from German artillery, making it difficult to estimate speed and direction. Wadsworth supervised design of camouflage patterns. #NorthernArt

Night night sweet dreamies

I look at my friends and think, how did I get this lucky?
They’re the kindest souls, the loudest laughers, the softest places to land.
Every single one of them feels like a little piece of home the universe tucked into my life at just the right time.
