I’ll give you one of those, but it’s been 10 years. The other 3 are players that Cubs fans would use to complain about how cheap ownership is and how it sucks that they aren’t trying to win. I do agree about their awful corporate owners, if Rogers sells them I’ll give up my hatred of the club.

The guy who has been GM for 10 years and keeps getting the vote of confidence is doing the job Shapiro wants him to do is all I mean.

Atkins dodging or lying is Shapiro doing it by extension, but I think their whole positioning is fake. I don’t think they are actually trying to spend like the Dodgers and just always coming in second place, gosh darn it, maybe next time!

I think any claim he makes about payroll not limiting them from doing anything they want is an outright lie. I also think they’ve developed a great strategy to never sign any big names but always claim to be just barely missing out to keep the fans appeased for free. Granted, I hate them though.

Respectfully, a guy who thinks it’s his job to transparently lie to the media about everything just isn’t someone I can trust or admire in any way outside of that forum. That applies to anyone, not just him. But I appreciate your perspective and it’s been genuinely nice to talk baseball

I see him as an absolute bullshit artist, but it’s interesting to hear the perspective of someone who has spoken to him in person. I don’t believe a word of the stuff he claims on major media stories, but I’m also obviously biased against the team. Fan perception of him seems low too anecdotally.

It’s possible the league would decide that the benefit outweighed any concern the Jays have, but I don’t see it becoming reality. Both because of the financing you mentioned, and because of the market itself. I do still believe the Jays would fight as hard as possible against it, but that’s just me.

Yeah probably. It still went to the MLB Executive Council and still got rejected. Doesn’t really matter what the intent was. We’re both speculating without knowing for sure what the Jays would do, but Rogers has spent 20+ years building a case that they own Canada as one territory.

and it’s been speculated by media in Florida that the Jays blocked the proposal for the Rays to split time with Montreal, which was an admittedly stupid idea that I doubt would’ve worked anyway. But living here, the Rogers monopoly over baseball is a real thing I’ve seen develop in my lifetime
