The carpenter bees are my most abundant pollinators this year. I’ve made peace with them.

I think the foster dog is broken. I am also 99% sure this will be a foster fail.

I had the most creative, inspiring and satisfying week teaching a surface decoration workshop at John C Campbell. Leaving that place makes me both sad it’s ver and excited to get back in the studio at home to explore the new ideas percolating

The spiral of a stem of common comfrey blooms, before unfurling. Made my eyes happy.

Zephirine Drouhin. Beloved Bourbon. Thornless climber. Bizot, 1868. I’ve coveted one for many years and her first year in the ground, she’s rewarding me with huge blooms. Smells like heaven

I came in late from teaching class and was greeted by a meow from above. June was moon bathing on the porch roof.

It peony season. Beautiful and fragrant, they’re my favorite harbingers of the growing season.

The greenhouse is coming along nicely, and I started the addition of two beds and a path. I will caulk and paint next week I suppose, as more rain is coming tomorrow.

It’s a greenhouse building kind of sunny spring day. Working on seedling tables. Don’t look at my mess on the ground please.

Nematodes, ATTACK! Heterorhabditis bacteriaphora, Steinernema carpocapsae and Steinernema feltiae: THIS IS SPARTA. Sometimes the bug population gets out of balance and the herd needs to be thinned. Beneficial nematodes help control, without harming the worms, environment, animals or well, us.

I’m planting up two hanging baskets for the back porch. This year it’s Lobelia ‘techno blue,’ ‘Headliner Blue’ petunias, Americana white geraniums, Blackie and Margureite sweet potato vines. In a few weeks, they’ll fill out and last into the fall.

Progress on the greenhouse was made, and now it is halted to a ridiculous week full of pretty extreme rain. While the flood water ran through my yard, it was good to see our footing was strong. Hopefully I can finish next week.

Here, stop doomscrolling and have a cat break. Meet Captain Killer Von Bloodfang the Puckish, Puck for short. Six weeks on the right, and two years on the left. He’s a mischievous troublemaking scoundrel but the softest, warmest sweetheart of a nap buddy.
