Follow my journey as a Travel OBGYN Locums Physician. Coming to a state near you.
Been awhile. Long time. In a new state this week finishing up a few 24 hour OBGYN hospitalist shifts in Washington state. Never been here before. Got to experience some great food and drinks at this RockCreek Seafood and Spirits on my last free night. My love language is food. I'm convinced lol.

Been awhile. Trying not to rage daily. Here is a to a lazy Sunday. Rest of the month is going to be busy with shifts. As a member of the Army National Guard, I am saddened that now this administration is seeking to discharge our Trans soldiers. It is a sad world we are living in these days.

2. So with that said I find myself with a week off next week after being off all last week. I will use that time to go over my file and make sure all licenses and certificates are up to date. I will work on some CMEs (continuing medical education). I will work on filling up more shifts until August.

1. One thing about locums that people have to be prepared for is that sometimes you plan for gigs but for whatever reason, they can't be finalized in time, and you are left with off time you weren't prepared for. It is important to have money saved for times such as these so you can cover bills.

Home this week. Catching up on nothing and it feels great. Will get back on the locums grind next week. Taking the time to smell the roses as they say and enjoy my family.

It's my little guys bday today. This 2 year old toddler is a terror but we sure do love him. Happy Birthday Apollo!! Got a little break from locums work and get to spend some days at home.

4. For those that want to keep up their surgical skills there are opportunities to do this as well. All of these options make Locums very enticing for us OBGYNs because we can tailor our work to our interests and switch it up as we need to. I personally plan on incorporating all of these options.

3. There are also places where you can do clinic for the day for about 8 hours with no call. Then there are places where you can do clinic with call. These you tend to find in more lower volume places. With both of these there are opportunities to do multiple days in a row from 3 days to 14 days.

2. There are also places where you can just do what is pager/hotel call. Meaning that usually you only go in if you get called for a delivery or emergency. These can be flat hourly rates or they can have a base amount for the day and then a call back rate for the hours you are called.

1. As an OBGYN, there are many different ways to do locums. There are places where you can do in house OBGYN hospitalist shifts the have both Obstetrics and Gynecology components or Laborist shifts that are geared more towards just Obstetrics. These are usually 12/24/36/48 hour shifts.

3. One of the things I love about being a locums doc so far, is that, it is nice working and then not having to think about work once you are done. That alone has already helped to decrease my stress.

2. After this week, I will be taking a much deserved short spa trip to Miraval in Arizona for the MLK weekend. Work hard. Play harder as they say.

1. Round 2 of Minnesotta shifts. Wearing a mask now, because people are blatantly coming on these flights knowing they are sick, and I cannot afford to get sick.

Thinking of all those affected by the fires in California. Such devastation out there.

5. My first locums state is Indiana. I have several sites I go to here. Here I am heading to my next state: Minnesota. Luckily the snowmeggedon missed my little small airline and we r good to go. This is one of the things I worry about as a Locums Doc, is how weather will affect my travel.

4. Now some people may ask, don't you have a family, how do they feel about you leaving them? Luckily my kids are older and don't necessarily need me physically present and my husband is very supportive of this role I have chosen. My counterparts with younger children have a different journey.

3. Now, the best thing for a Locums Physician is the IMLCC. This is a program that allows us to get multiple medical licenses in different states in a faster way. The more licenses you get the more opportunities you have available to you.

2. As a Locums Physician my role is to fill in in places where they have lost an OBGYN and are in the search for a new one, have a doc on some type of leave and need a fill in, or they simply do not have enough docs to do what needs to be done to ensure safe patient care. This is where I come in.

1. What is a Locums Physician? What is my role? As an OBGYN I've seen first hand the impact burnout can have on physicians. When I made the decision to become a Locums Physician, my goal was to cure my burnout, help others cure their burnout and go to the places that need help the most.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Each year, the trans community loses too many lives, especially trans women of color, to hate and violence.

More than ever, we must stand by our trans family and support them, hold space for them, and insist the scapegoating and targeting stop.

Now.
