Scissor-tailed flycatcher in South Carolina! They are a breeding pair but their nestlings were predated last week. However, we found what looks to be a new nest in a less exposed position so 🤞

Had great fun making these cakes for our two newly minted Doctors in the Lab. The
decorations match their thesis topics - fish teeth and a whale fluke.

For this world ocean day I was super fortunate to sit and eat breakfast here watching two endangered Hawaiian monk seals foraging. The oceans are the lifeblood of the planet - donate and advocate where you can.

Lucky shot! Was taking photos of the noddies (seabirds) and they were photobombed by the tuna! Could not have taken this photo if I tried to do so but a very happy accident!

We just completed the first of four weeks measuring and photographing 🐠 at the Bishop museum. To my surprise I have found a new appreciation for gobies - so morphologically diverse! Tiny fishes are hard to measure and photograph so the team is looking forward to pseudochromids and labrids soon!

While at the fantastic evolutionary morphology workshop at OIST I also managed to sneak away and do some snorkelling, the reef was fantastic and I saw so many new fishes, including Titan triggerfish and a moray swimming - I think grayfaced.

Hello! Still figuring out this place in the sky. Tomorrow will be giving a talk in the evolutionary morphology workshop at OIST but today ran away to Churaumi aquarium with two amazing and inspiring women in science - wow what a day!
