The thing about AI is that you don't even have to be good at art to have fun with it. My nephew asked me to draw a chicken with a rocket launcher, so I did. It's been years since I've drawn regularly. I'm not under the illusion that I'm particularly good at it. But drawing is fun, damnit!

The article is saying that the work of professionals paid off, preventing a major disaster, which left the crowd of people anticipating a disaster feeling weirdly unsatisfied and stuck with pantries of freeze-dried food and canned beans.
