Every year, hundreds of children in the US gain access to a firearm and unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else. So far in 2025, there have been at least 198 unintentional shootings by children, resulting in 81 deaths and 122 injuries nationally.

Indiana is one of twenty-nine states with a Shoot First law, which the gun lobby calls “Stand Your Ground.” These laws distort public perception of lawful self-defense—which already exists in all 50 states—and encourage people to shoot to kill, even when they can safely walk away.
